It’s on in 2023! Poetry and Performance now officially launched!

For our second annual art event where inviting artists to submit poems and a video performance of the poem in their own voice and style.

Your talents can be presented in any poetic style but must not be more than 500 words and must capture some aspects of the mythical setting from the Legend of the Sleeping Giant, which you can read here.

All submission will be featured on our website, however, a panel of judges will select ten (10) finalists whom will be invited to perform their poem live at the awards event on Earth Day April 22, 2023.

Meet This Year’s Patron

Ubaldimir Guerra is a poet and lecturer from Belize City. His poetry appears in the anthology Bookmarked: PREE New Caribbean WritingPREE: Caribbean WritingBIM: Arts for the 21st CenturyInterviewing the Caribbean and Bent Pin Press.  He is also a recipient of the National Institute of Culture and History’s Poetfree Awards, 2021 and was shortlisted for the Bocas Emerging Writers Fellowship in 2022.

Who can apply for this event?

This year, the competition engages young poets ages 15-35 years.

Are there any Prizes?

The awards are as follows:

  • Gold Prize (1st Place) – $1,500.00
  • Silver Prize (2nd Place) – 1 Samsung tablet
  • Bronze Prize (3rd Place) – 1 cellphone
  • People’s Choice – Gift Certificate
  • Three (3) honorary mentions – Medals
  • Four Certificates
